Rheumatic disease can affect Lungs leading to respiratory failure, Kidneys leading to permanent dialysis, Heart leading to Heart failure, Brain leading to early stroke, Nerves leading to Neuropathies, Eyes leading to blindness. Rheumatic disease can affect skin leading to rashes, tight skin, abnormal nail growth, etc. Each and every organ can be affected in Rheumatological diseases beside joints. So, Rheumatological evaluation is necessary in each and every cases in need.

Most of these conditions happen when immune system goes awry and attacks own tissues. Cigarette smoke, pollution, or something that causes an infection are the causal factors for Rheumatic disease. Gender also plays a role- rheumatic diseases seem to affect women more than men.
